what is the difference between a registrar and a celebrant?
At the moment a celebrant cannot legally marry you in England and Wales. As I mention above the legal bit will need to be carried out by a registrar. This can put couples off as you may not see the need to have a celebrant led ceremony. But this is easily resolved as you would just need to book a basic 2+2 ceremony which just includes the legal bits needed to perform a marriage. The only people that need to be there are the couple, two witnesses and the registrars. This is the most cost effective and shortest way to get legally married. For further details you will need to contact your local Registration Office. Details for this can be found at
can a celebrant legally marry you?
Simply put a celebrant is the person who stands up at the front and conducts your ceremony. A celebrant will spend a really lovely and quality amount of time getting to know you and our sole purpose is to create and deliver a ceremony as personal as it can be and a special as you are.
what is a celebrant?
Registrars are employed by the local authority, and the ceremonies they conduct are legally binding. By law, a ceremony conducted by a registrar must take place in a register office or licensed premises. There are to be no bespoke vows as registrars are not permitted to deviate from the official script. When working with a celebrant, you have free reign to choose the ceremony you would like, right down to the last detail. Whether it’s writing your own vows, or adding in traditions and rituals which include family, friends or pets. Venue-wise, it can take place anywhere. Even in a licensed wedding venue if that’s what you’d prefer. This allows for limitless possibilities. From home weddings to picturesque locations in the great outdoors. You will just need to have a basic legal ceremony with a registrar too.
WHY have a celebrant?
I think it can depend on what you may have going on in your lives. Do you live overseas and want to get married out there with family but also want to celebrate in the UK with those who couldn’t travel? Maybe you’re saving for something special but getting married feels like the right thing to do for yourselves now and you’d like a small and intimate ceremony...that’s what I did, and it was great! Or quite simply your dream wedding location isn’t a licensed venue. By choosing to have a celebrant led ceremony, you will have complete say over how, when and where you celebrate. If you want to be at home in your pj’s and slippers on Christmas Eve enjoying a mulled wine or on your farm in your wellies on a soaking wet day in a field full of cows, then I am here for that. No, really that sounds incredible!
can a celebrant led service take place anywhere - a woodland for example or your home?
As long as you have the landowners permission then yes! That is what makes it so special, the options are limitless. As a celebrant doesn't have to follow a formal script, the whole ceremony can be designed to be as individual as you are.
why choose me?
I think this very much comes down to finding the right fit with your personality. Often when you click with the right person, and hopefully in this case me, it feels effortless and easy-going. If, however you don’t feel that I am the perfect ‘people fit’ for you,
then that’s OK too, because you will have still discovered what it is a celebrant can do for you, and I will happily point you in the direction of other amazing celebrants who may better suited.
